Research Abstract |
For the purpose of applying the differences in electric properties of tissue to the diagnosis of tumors, the electrical bio-impedance of 54 patients with breast tumors were measured. A new impedance analyzer system was developed and the mesurements were perforemed within the frequency range of 0 to 200 kHz with three-electrode method. The three-electrode consists of a coaxial needle electrode inserted into the tumor and a large reference on upper abdominal wall. The living tissue can be regarded electorically as a equivalent consisted of extracellular resistance(R1), intracellular resistance(R2), and electric capacitance of the cell membrance(C). These three parameters were calculated from the measured values of electrical bio-impedance. It was found that R1 and R2 of breast cancers were significantly higher than those of benign tumors (p<0.01), and that C of breast cancers was significantly lower than that of benign tumors (p<0.01). The measurement of electrical bioimpedance of breast tumor may be appliedc to the differencial diagnosis of breast lesions.
