Research Abstract

We did the experimental lessons in the elementaly schools in OSAKA and NARA. The main theme of the lessons is make non-handicapped understand the handicapped. This theme is not so easy to be treated in the classroom. But already many puiples are integrated in to the normal class today. To integrate the handicapped smoothly. non-handicapped pupils must understand and accept him or her in the class.
We already published the teaching material "DON-DON"(that's main purpose is to illustrate the handicapped persons situatin in the society)in 1985. It was the first text-book on that theme in Japan. After that publishing. it became important to show how to use that textbook and make lessons on that theme. On these background. we dicided to start our project.
Our main theme is as follows (1)To check the contents of the textbook through the practice and make better that. (2)To analyse the teachers way of teaching in the classroom. (3)To discribe and analyse the non-handicapped pupils action and re … More action when they have lessons in the classroom.
Experimental lessons in the classroom have done totally 45days under two years(1986-1987). 15 elementallyschools cooperated with us. On each school, a set of experimental lessons(1 hour per a day and continue 3 days)was done. The procedure of our project is as follows. 1)First of all. as a rule we collected the various materials about the pupils in the classroom.for the experimental lessons. 2)Using two video-cameras and one tape-recorder. we recorded the lessons(a set of experimental lessons was done under 3days usualy one hour-lessons per a day). 3)After the lesson we did the discussion about the lesson. The members of the meeting were the class-teacher, principal the other collegues and our staff. 4)After a set of experimental lessons. We described exactly what had happened in the class.---mainly what the teacher had said and what the pupil had reacted to that etc.
As a result, first of all, we could collect some pattems of lesson whose aim is to make the non-handicapped understand the handicapped. Secondly, we made some comment on the contents of the textbook. Thirdly. we pointed out that it was important that pupils acted or reacted very freely and spontaneously otherwise, they could not understand deeply and it depended partly on the type of the group formation of the pupils.
