Research Abstract

The purpose of this research was to develope a new whisker/aluminum alloy compounds. Silicon carbide (SIC) whisker/aluminum alloy (A6061) composites were prepaired by powder metallurgy (P/M). The mecanical properties and wear properties of the composites were investigated.
1. The damage and dispersion of whisker in the composites were affected by the mixing method and the extrusion process. 2. The tensile strength of composites increased with adding sic whisker up to 5%. 3. The wear resistance of composites were improved three times of aluminum alloy by adding SiC whisker.
