Research Abstract

The significance of Okina in folk performing arts is found in the value of itself and at the same time in being material of the Okina of No. There are Okina traditions in folk performing arts which possess both of characteristics, the examples being Okinamai of the Narazuhiko shrine, Okinamai of the Kamikamogawa shrine in Kato district of Hyo^^-go prefecture and Okinamai of the Otoshi shrine in Kuruma, Kobe city. Since the latter two had already been reported in details, Okinamai of the Narazuhiko shrine has been selected as the main object in this research. Therefore, the objectives of this research were as follows; (1) understanding the history and the present condition of Okinamai of the Narazuhiko shrine; and (2) locating it in the relationship both in the Okina of No and the Okina in folk performing arts.
Concerning the first point, as the historical materials housed at the Narazuhiko shrine and the Okina Ko^^- group of the shrine, which had been unknown, were discovered, research … More based on these materials as well as information from the informants, made it possible to understand to a certain extent about the dance movement of the Okinamai and the Okina Ko^^- group after the Kansei era.
Also, as reported in the result paper, concerning the present condition of the Okinamai, detailed documentation mainly of the music and the dance movement was completed. The documentation of the Okinamai made in 1989 may certainly become highly valuable in the future.
Concerning the second point, it was proved that the Okinamai of the Narazuhiko shrine is in the series of the Okinamai of the Kamikamogawa shrine or the Otoshi shrine in Kobe; that is, it is the Okina which transmits the Nen'yo who had monopolized performing the in the Okina in the Takigi Sarugaku at Nara or in the Onmatsuri fete at the Kasuga Wakamiya shrine in the Edo period. Nen'yo is descendant of Jo^^-za-Shu group (senior members who possess the right to perform Okina) of in the Sarugaku-Za troop before the Muromachi period. This fact gave a new recognition on the strong power of the tradition of Okina as performing arts, and the meaning and location of Okina in the folk performing arts as a whole. Less
