Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本課題では,多極子自由度が関与した多彩な相転移や伝導現象に着目し、特に四極子自由度が関与した近藤効果や超伝導を高圧下での精密物性測定によって明らかにすることを目的とした。特に、高圧下での熱力学的な特性を明らかにすべく,比熱および熱電能測定法の開発に取り組んだ。四極子自由度を有するPr系化合物PrTi2Al20に対しては、約9 GPaまでの高圧力下での比熱を半定量的に評価し、重い電子超伝導の発現による比熱異常を観測すること成功した。また、高圧下比熱測定での測温技術を応用することで、高圧下・磁場中での熱電能測定法を3 GPa程度の圧力域まで確立することにも成功した。さらに高圧下・磁場中電気抵抗測定からは、PrTi2Al20の四極子秩序が消失する10 GPaを超えた領域の幅広い圧力・磁場領域において、四極子近藤効果を示唆する非フェルミ液体的挙動が観測されることを見出した。四極子自由度を有する新たなPr系化合物として、Znを含む1-2-20系物質のZnサイトの一部をSnで置換したPrRu2Sn2Zn18に対する研究も行った。その結果、常圧では約2 Kで四極子秩序を示す一方で、加圧により混成効果が顕著な増大を示すことを見出した。これと類似した圧力効果は、PrTi2Al20においても観測されており、Al系とZn系物質の物性を統一的に理解するための重要な手がかりになると期待される。さらに、常圧において四極子秩序とキャント磁性を示すBa2MgReO6の単結晶試料における圧力効果の研究も行った。その結果,理論的に予言されていた八極子および新奇な磁性相の存在を示唆する多彩な圧力-温度相図を実験的に得ることを成功した。本課題から得られた成果は、多極子自由度を有する系に対する新奇物性の開拓につながると期待される。
