Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本公募研究課題はIshimura et al.(2004, 2008)で開発された微量炭酸塩の酸素炭素安定同位体(δ18O,δ13C)分析技術を,魚類耳石の高解像度水温履歴解析に応用し,日輪レベルまでの高時間分解能での経験水温履歴を抽出することを目的とした.この高解像度解析の技術開発と応用研究は世界で初めての試みであるが,その成果は,魚類の産卵時期・規模,回遊中に魚類が経験した水塊情報の推定,そして当該魚種の集団構造を明らかにすることへの貢献へつながるものである.研究期間を通じて,研究計画班A03-6班および米田公募班と連携を進め,相互の研究特性を活かしながら適切な研究対象を選定した.最終的にA03-6班のモデル解析に対しての高解像度の実証データとして提供することを本研究領域への最終目的に設定し,「分析応用技術の開発」,「魚類水温履歴の抽出」,「魚種ごとの水温換算式の構築」,「耳石同位体研究指針を提示」を研究方針とし,全ての項目で新たな知見と今後の当該領域の発展に資する成果を得ることができた.
今年度は特に,A3-6班および米田公募班との連携によって,世界初となるマサバとカタクチイワシのδ18O温度換算式を構築した.また,仔魚から稚魚への成長過程でδ18Oが変化するという特性が示されたため,経験水温を復元する際にはこの特性を十分に考慮する必要があるという新知見も得ることができた.同一環境で生育した魚類耳石のδ13C値は個体差が小さいことを明らかにし,これまで議論が困難とされてきたδ13Cに基づく生態情報の解釈に繋がる一歩となる.
本公募研究を通じて得られた成果は,当初目的を十分に達成すると共に,多数の新知見を獲得するに至った.本研究領域の分野融合によって「海洋混合学の創設」のさらなる発展研究に直結する研究基盤の確立と新規研究領域の発展に結び付く.
