Research Abstract

顔から受ける印象には大きく分けて2つの側面がある.ひとつは顔の外面的な印象である顔の魅力であり,もうひとつは顔から受ける内面的な印象である性格面の善悪である.これらの2つの側面からなる顔の印象は,顔の記憶に対して影響を与えることが心理学的研究から知られている.すなわち魅力的な顔はそうでない顔よりも記憶に残りやすく,また性格的に「悪い」印象をもつ顔はそうでない顔よりも記憶に残りやすい.しかしながら,このような顔の印象と顔の記憶との間の相互作用を担う神経基盤については,未だに十分に理解が進んでいない.そこで本研究では,(1)顔の魅力と顔の記憶,(2)顔の第一印象の「悪さ」と顔の記憶,の2側面を担う脳内機構を機能的磁気共鳴画像(fMRI)を用いて検証を行った.
まず,(1)「顔の魅力と顔の記憶」についての研究では,行動データとして魅力的な顔は中程度の魅力や魅力的でない顔よりも良く記憶されることが示され,その神経基盤として報酬系の一つである眼窩前頭皮質と記憶に重要な海馬との間の相互作用の重要性が示された.(2)「顔の第一印象の悪さと顔の記憶」についての研究では,行動データとして第一印象が悪い顔は中程度の印象の顔や良い印象の顔と比較してより良く記憶されることが示され,その神経基盤として痛みや罰の処理に関連する島皮質と海馬との間の相互作用の重要性が示された.以上のことから,顔から受ける外面的な印象と内面的な印象の違いによって顔の記憶は異なった影響を受け,その神経基盤として顔の印象を媒介する領域と記憶情報処理に重要な海馬との間の相互作用が重要であることが示唆された.
