Outline of Research at the Start	西アジアと東アジアというユーラシアの二大家畜文化センターの間にあって、両文化の接触と交流に重要な位置を占めてきた中央アジア牧畜社会の家畜文化の特質と発展を明らかにすることで、中国から日本列島に至る東アジア家畜文化の特質やその成立と変容過程の解明に資する。農牧接触地域でもある中央アジアにおいて牧畜民と農耕民の家畜利用にはどのような差があるのか、それは動物考古学的にどのように識別し得るのかという方法論的課題も追究する。課題追究は最新の化学分析手法も用いながら家畜のライフサイクル全体を詳細に復元する独自の方法により実施し、中央アジアの家畜利用実態を理解するためのモデル構築を目指す。
