Outline of Annual Research Achievements

北西太平洋海域に展開された3基のフロートによる日々の観測により、2011-2012年の台風シーズンにおいて8つの台風の海洋応答をとらえた。この海洋応答について、台風中心に対するフロートの3つの相対位置を①100km以内の台風近傍域、②台風経路から100km外でかつ右側に離れた海域、③台風経路から100km外でかつ左側に離れた海域に分け、それぞれについてその応答特性を調査した。①の台風近傍域では、風の低気圧性回転成分により海洋内部で湧昇が生じた結果として、表層水温の低下が顕著となった。また②の進行方向右側の海域では、強風による乱流混合の増大に起因した海洋混合層の深まりが顕著であった。さらに海洋表層における塩分変動は、台風中心とフロートの相対位置関係に加え、降水の影響を強く受けることがわかった。
次にこの8つの台風のうち4事例について非静力学大気波浪海洋結合モデルによる数値シミュレーションを実施した。シミュレーション結果から①台風による海水温低下により台風中心気圧が高くなること、②環境場の風が弱い事例(2011年台風第9号)で、海水温低下が台風経路シミュレーションに影響を与えること、③台風中心から半径200kmまで、台風直下に形成される海水温低下は24~47%の潜熱の減少をもたらすことがあきらかとなった。
また2013年台風第18号について、非静力学大気波浪海洋結合モデルにより数値シミュレーションを実施した結果、黒潮流域での高海面水温場による台風渦の順圧対流不安定により生成されたメソ渦が対流バーストを引き起こすことにより、北緯30度以北でこの台風が急発達したことが明らかとなった。この結果はまた、大気海洋間の高エンタルビーフラックスが台風の急速な強化に必ずしも必要でないことを示唆する。
