Outline of Annual Research Achievements

自律駆動微粒子の振動周期を制御するために、新たに親水性のアクリルアミドを共重合した微粒子、より高い下限臨界共溶温度を有するpoly(N-isopropylmethacrylamide) (pNIPMAm, LCST 38-44 °C)やpoly(N-ethylacrylamide) (pNEAm, LCST 72 °C)を主骨格とした微粒子を合成した。これらの微粒子を用い、まず、化学振動反応条件を精査し、最短振動周期が得られる基質濃度を決定し、続いて、振動挙動の温度依存性を検討する事で、アクリルアミド共重合微粒子が、これまでの報告に比べ、振動可能温度域を約1.9倍増大し(31 °C)、振動周期は約3.3倍(7.9 s)の短縮化を実現した。
以上で得た微粒子間を連結するために、新たにアミノ基を微粒子に導入し、そこを足場に微粒子間を架橋し、バルク体を形成した。バルク体の振動周期も、微粒子分散系と同程度まで短縮することができ、応用範囲の拡大につなげることができた。
その他に、サイズの影響を見るために、生体内分子等と同程度の微粒子を合成し、2次元基板上における動的秩序形成の構築を試みた。マイカ基板上に高分子鎖・微粒子を固定化させ、水中で揺動する様を、原子間力顕微鏡法を駆使することで達成することができた。しかし、溶液中で確認されている、微粒子が周期的に離合集散するような動的秩序構造の形成までは、2次元基板上では確認するに至っておらず、継続課題における解決すべき課題の一つだと考えている。
