研究概要

沖縄産ヤサイサンゴ科3種について、冬期の生殖を調べた結果、ショウガサンゴはこれまで同様9〜3月まで全くプラヌラの放出がないことを再確認し、ハナヤサイサンゴは9〜1月までプラヌラを放出し、2〜3月は放出がなかった。しかし実験的に海水温を25〜27℃に上げて飼育したものでは放出が見られた。このことから水温とプラヌラ放出が深くかかわっていることが明らかになった(山里)。電気泳動法により、アザミサンゴ本体と共生藻の酸素を分離識別した後、いくつかの色彩変異型について18酵素のうち8酵素で解釈可能なバンドが得られ、12群体中1個体において多型がえられた(日高)。両地域のガンガゼモドキを詳細に比較したところ、殻のサイズ、棘の形態、生息環境に差が見られ別種の可能性が高い。トックリガンガゼモドキもグアムで採集し沖縄のものと比較検討中である(上原)。沖縄でハナアイゴ成魚を周年飼育し、生殖腺重量及び卵巣組織の変化から繁殖期が5〜7月であることが明らかになった。また新月の前に産卵する月周性のリズムを持つことがわかった(高野、竹村)。またグアム産とは繁殖期が異なることが示唆された(竹村)。グアムにおいて動物と藻類の相互関係についての基礎調査を実施した。特に両地域の干満と水温の差が動物と藻類の生活様式に深くかかわっていることが示唆された(香村)。沖縄に招へいされたリッチモンドは、両地域の水質汚濁等の環境条件と各種サンゴの受精・発生との関係を継続して研究した。ネルソンは、両地域のアイゴ属4種の個体を採集し、種間・種内変異について検討中である。また両地域のルリスズメの遺伝的変異について生化学的手法で調べた結果、大きな差があり別種の可能性が極めて高い(ラクソン,ネルソン)。バ-クランドは、サンゴ幼生の加入に及ぼす環境調査を現地で実施した。
