研究概要

北アメリカに産する日本と共通するマメ科植物(ヌスビトハギ属、ハギ属、フジ属、ソラマメ属)を探索・収集するために、9月28日〜10月20日に、アメリカ合衆国テキサス州東南部、ジョージア州南部およびフロリダ州北部で現地調査を行った。また、北アメリカ産ヌスビトハギ属およびハギ属の分類学的研究を行うため、12月2日〜12月22日にアメリカ合衆国のニューヨーク植物園とハーバード大学で標本調査を行った。押し葉標本および液浸標本は、東北大学、琉球大学および千葉県立中央博物館で分類学的および形態学的研究を行った。また、東北大学およびコ-ネル大学で葉緑体DNA上の複数の遺伝子の塩基配列を解析した。
ハギ属の層内分類群を分ける重要な形質である閉鎖花の形態と変異をイヌハギを用いて調べた結果、花序形態と密接に関連して、形態の変異が起こることが明らかになった。この結果は、従来より近縁とされてきた北アメリカの種の閉鎖花の形態変異パターンと異なることが判明した。
葉緑体DNA遺伝子rbcLの解析の結果、ハギ属はヌスビトハギ属と同じ単系統群に属し、インゲンマメ連やPsoraleae連の姉妹群であることが明らかになった。さらに、ヌスビトハギ連内では、葉緑体DNA遺伝子rp12イントロンの消失から、ヌスビトハギ亜連の金属とハギ亜連のハギ属、ヤハズソウ属、ハナハギ属とが単系統群であることを明らかにした。
葉緑体DNA遺伝子trnLとtrnF間の非コード領域に着目して、ハギ属の大部分の種の塩基配列を解析した。その結果、ハギ属はアジアの種と北アメリカの種の各々からなる2つの単系統群からなることが明らかになった。したがって、ハギ属では種分化の初期にアジアから北アメリカに種の侵入があり、その後、両地域間では種の行来がなく、それぞれの地域で独立に種分化が起こったものと考えられる。
また、同じ遺伝子領域を用いて、ユクノキ属、フジ属、ヤブマメ属についても両地域の種間で比較したところ、木本性のユクノキ属やフジ属の方が、草本性のハギ属やヤブマメ属に比べ、両地域間の遺伝的な相違が大きい傾向にあり、より早い時期に種分化が起こったものと考えられる。
