研究概要

超熱粒子から銀河宇宙線に到る広いエネルギー領域にわたる非熱的な粒子群の核成分、エネルギースペクトル、時間変動等を、惑星間空間において多点・同時の連続観測を通して、太陽圏の全体像を把握することが目的である。以下に研究成果の概要をまとめる。
○宇宙線異常成分のアルゴンと硫黄を世界で初めて観測した。
○宇宙線のモジュレ一ションは、高緯度まで存在することを示した。
○太陽共回転相互作用領域(ClR)からの1AUで観測される高エネルギー粒子は、磁場のセクター境界を過ぎた後も連続的なエネルギーの増加を示す。ClR粒子イベントに関係した宇宙線の強度減少は、粒子強度や太陽風速度の増加量との間には良い相関が有る。
○惑星間空間衝撃波の擾乱領域での宇宙線の平均自由行程は、通常の惑星間空間のおよそ5倍以下である。
○惑星間駆動衝撃波による加速粒子の時間強度変動は、発生した太陽経度に依存することを確認した。
○太陽中性子は、核子間のカスケード過程により、太陽大気中で多量の低エネルギー中性子を作る。
○フレアに関係したイオンは、フレアプラズマ内での共鳴波動-粒子相互作用により特徴的な組成比を持つ。
○インパルシブ・フレアにおける、カスケーディング・アルヴェン波による加速を提唱した。
○地球磁気圏尾部におけるリコネクションについて、異常抵抗モデルを用いてテスト粒子シミュレーションを行い、陽子加速は3つの領域で効果的になされることを示した。
○リコネクション領域では、ショック前面で粒子が湾曲ドリフトを持つ時、大きな加速が起こる。
以上のように、太陽表面での粒子加速に伴い、惑星間空間の粒子環境は著しく変動し、これらの活動により地球磁気圏はもとより太陽圏全般も大きな影響を受け、それらの複雑な結合系の様子が部分的ではあるがその理解を深めることができたと考えている。「11.研究業績」で示すように多くの科学的成果が得られ、有意義な国際共同研究を行うことができた
