研究概要

ボリビアで1997年度実施した二重標識水法によるエネルギー消費量分析はほぼ完了した。主要な結論のうち次の2点が重要である。1)エネルギー消費量(TEE)と安静時代謝量(RMR)の比(TEE/RMR)で示した成人の身体活動レベル(PAL)は2.12±0.34(平均±標準偏差)で、生業活動閑期であった前回値1.96±0.25よりやや高めであったが統計的有意差は認められなかった。アンデス農牧社会が生業活動繁期・閑期とも年間を通して極めて高い身体活動レベルを維持していることは新しい知見である。2)前回と同様、身体活動レベルには性・年齢による差異がなく、特に60-80歳の対象者でもPALは2-2.7を示した。この年齢階層が極めて高いPAL値を示すような社会の報告例はない。
1998年度はネパールヒマラヤ高地および低地において現地調査を実施した。都市部と農村部における環境認識・資源利用と健康に焦点をあてた概括的比較調査とするため、1)ムスタン地域(山岳農村)、2)カトマンズ市街地およびその近郊農村(丘陵地域)、3)ルパンディヒ地域(低地市街地および農村部を含む)を調査対象地域として選定した。あらかじめ作成した英語の質問票をネパール語に翻訳した後、それを用いて当該地域の主要言語を母語とする調査補助員による世帯訪問調査を行なった。また、それぞれの地域の環境汚染状況簡易調査として、大気および生活用水水質(主として飲用水)の試料採取を行った。大気については、二酸化窒素(NO_2)および揮発性有機化合物(volatile organic compounds:VOC)の個人サンプラーによる捕集(個人、室内、屋外に取り付け24時間曝露してガスを捕集)の後、日本に持ち帰り、吸光光度計、GC/MSにより定量した。水質については、簡易測定キットによる現場での呈色試験(pH、アンモニア、硝酸、リン酸、COD)および試料の一部はトリブバン大学において細菌検索を行った。
