研究概要

BESS-Polar実験は、大立体角、高精度超伝導マグネットスペクトロメータによる反粒子、反物質の探索を通して初期宇宙における素粒子像を探るとともに、一次宇宙線、大気宇宙線等の精密観測を太陽活動の変化による変調効果に注目し、観測を推進した。東京大学、KEK、神戸大学、ISAS/JAXA、NASA,メリーランド大、デンバー大が協力した。
平成17年度は、南極周回気球観測実験(BESS-Polar-I実験、H16年実施)に用いた観測器の(実験後のビームテストによる)性能確認、およびデータ解析を進めた。測定器性能を良く理解し、観測結果を導き、信頼性の高い結果を得るため、本研究期間の終了後も、平成18年度に亘って解析を進め、結果を纏めることができた。南極周回気球観測により、0.1〜4.2GeVのエネルギー範囲において、1500イベント越える反陽子フラックスを検出した。BESS-Polar-Iにおける観測値(エネルギースペクトル)は、この太陽活動(過渡期)変調を考慮した二次起源モデルとよく整合し、原始ブラックホール等の一次起源反陽子の兆候は観測されていない。BESS-Polar-Iは太陽活動の極大から極小期への過渡期であり、一次起源反陽子が存在しても、二次起源反陽子スペクトルに隠れるレベルである事から、予測に整合している。次期太陽活動極小期(平成19年度)に計画しているBESS-Polar-II実験での観測と比較される為の、重要な基盤データを提供した。また、宇宙反物質/物質の非対称性の検証としての、反ヘリウム核の探索においては、BES-Polar-I実験によるヘリウム核フラックスの観測から、感度をさらに高め、反ヘリウム/ヘリウム核比の上限値として、2x10E-7を得て、宇宙での反物質、物質の非対称性の検証を進展させた。
