本研究では、自律成長するWWWのリンク構造特徴に基づいた、効率的なソフトウエアロボット巡行(Webクローラ)法や情報伝搬の特性を明らかにし、ネットワーク上の人々の価値付けを反映したリンク構造を利用した、動的な情報空間の構築法を探ってきた。その研究助成期間内に掲載された論文内容に基づいて、以下の研究成果を報告する。・情報断片の関連度からなる情報空間上の探索操作に対するアルゴリズム理論的な効率を、凸計画の問題クラスから明らかにした。・実際のリンク構造データの分析とその効率的収集法の開発の為、Java+HORBに基づく数十台のPCで構成されたマスタースレーブの集中制御型および分散協調型のWebクローラを構築した。10万頁以上の複数のサンプルからWebコミュニティ核を経由する新しい巡行現象を発見するとともに、サーバ性能が異なるヘテロな環境における負荷均一化の理論解析も行った。・WWWと共通するScale-Free構造に起因する情報伝搬特性に関して特に、動的な情報流(ルーティング)による雪崩的な許容量破錠を起すカスケード故障の防御策や、現実の社会的あるいは技術・生物学的なネットワークの結合特性のウィルス伝搬への影響を(拡がりの規模や感染防止策の検討を含めて)シミュレーション分析から明らかにした。その他、災害や攻撃への耐性をも持つWWWやインターネットのネットワーク構造に対する社会的関心から、学会等の招待講演やシンポジュウム主催をはじめ、新しい研究分野の啓蒙活動にも貢献した。
