Examined the rise of hate speech and right wing criticism of Korean residents in Japan, with a special focus on online communication, and provocative activities (demonstrations) in Osaka's Korea Town. The research compares the reactions of four groups of actors: 1) mainstream Japanese society; 2) members of the Zaitokukai;, 3) Korean minorities; 4) and citizens opposed to the rise of hate speech.
Results of the research were presented at forums in South Korea, Japan, and the United States. Locations include: Ewha Women's University, Seoul National University, Yonsei University, Keio University, Kyoto University, and Doshisha University, as well as The International Sociological Association meeting in Yokohama and the Association for Asian Studies meetings in Philadelphia.
Two journal articles and a book were completed during Yoon's postdoctoral tenure. These writings are under review. .
