本研究ではまず、LSI設計における大きなボトルネックとして世界中の設計者を悩ませていた「非収束問題」に対し、ホモトピー法を用いた新しい解析アルゴリズムを開発し、その大域的収束性を証明した。更に企業との共同研究により、最も解析が困難とされるバイポーラアナログ回路に対して、その最大級である1万素子クラスのアナログLSIを世界で初めて収束の保証付きで解くことに成功した。それにより、LSI設計期間の短縮や民生機器の高度化・低価格化、更にはそれに伴う情報産業の発展に貢献した。また、欧米で使われているホモトピー法の回路シミュレータに対して、プログラムのある部分に-1を付けることにより大域的収束性が保証されることを証明し、その収束性を飛躍的に改善した。なおこのアルゴリズムはIEEE(米国電気電子学会)のNG-SPICEプロジェクトで採用され、全世界に公開されている。それにより世界中の設計者が収束率100%の回路シミュレータを利用できるようになり、長い間多くの設計者を悩ませた「非収束問題」は国内外で理論・実用の両面から完全に解決された。更に、このようなホモトピー法に対して理論的・実用的見地からの改良を行い、その計算効率を大幅に改善することに成功した。また、LSI設計における重要な未解決問題として知られている「区分的線形回路のすべての解を求めるアルゴリズムの開発」に対し、双対単体法を用いた新しいアルゴリズムを提案し、線形領域数1000^{2000}という超大規模問題の全解探索を実用時間内で行うことに世界で初めて成功した。これにより、それまで不可能と考えられていた「実用規模の問題にも対処できる全解探索アルゴリズムの開発」の可能性に向けて大きく前進した。また、「式を回路で記述する」という逆転的発想に基づくSPICE指向型数値解析法に関する研究を行い、「かなり高度なホモトピー法を」「ホモトピー法のことをよく知らなくても」「複雑なプログラミングを行うことなく」「手軽に」「無料で」「広範囲の問題に」適用することを可能にした。この研究はSPICEの適用範囲を大幅に拡大するもので、来るべきユビキタス社会に向けて有力な方法論となることが期待される。
