This year, I got Ph.D degree under the title as “Significance of bacteria community and operation conditions on nitrous oxide emission from a biological nitrogen removal system”.The basically idea of this study is to accelerate nitrous oxide (N2O) reduction. In this study, my achievements are: (1) I showed nosZ mRNA as a good indicator for N2O-reducing activity; (2) I identified N2O-reducing bacteria in our reactors’ system; (3) Combined the long-term reactor’s operation and functional analysis, I suggested optimal operation conditions for low N2O emission.
After I got Ph.D degree from Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology, I visited to the Advanced Water Management Centre (AWMC), University of Queensland (UQ), which is a world-class research center about wastewater treatment technology. What I have learned there are: (1). Using free nitric acid (FNA)-based technology to achieve simultaneous nitrification and denitrification (SND) during biological nitrogen removal process. (2). Improving dewaterability of anaerobically digested sludge by innovative methods (combined conditioning with persulfate and zero-valent iron; combined zero valent iron and hydrogen peroxide conditioning).
