『マハーバーラタ』第12巻の成立過程研究

研究概要

三年間の研究によって以下の研究成果を挙げることができた。(1)『マハーバーラタ』第12巻の大半を占める「ビーシュマの教説」は、同巻冒頭40数章に対する注釈として後代に順次増広されたものである。(2)「ビーシュマの教説」はもともとかなり短いテキストであり、『マハーバーラタ』の原型テキストでは、冒頭の40数章の後半部に含まれていた可能性がある。(3)「ビーシュマの教説」は三つの層から成るが、これらの層は先行する層の注釈として順次付加されていった。(4)「ビーシュマの教説」は、全体として、ブラーフマナ以来の古代インド注釈学と叙事詩の二つの伝統の合流の産物と見なすことができる。これらの知見により、『マハーバーラタ』第12巻から13巻にかけての教説部分が順次形成付加されていった基本的構造が明らかとなり、同叙事詩の教説部分の成立次第を今後より詳細に究明していく上での基本コンセプトをを確立することができた。
以上の成果は、2003年にヘルシンキで開催された第12回世界サンスクリット会議、2004年にサンディエゴで開催された第214回アメリカ東洋学会、同年モスクワで開催された第37回国際アジア・北アフリカ研究者会議、同年ドイツのハレで開催されたドイツ東洋学会、2005年にクロアチアのドゥプロヴニクで開催された第4回ドゥプロヴニク国際サンスクリット叙事詩・プラーナ学会、同年ロンドンで開催された第14回国際仏教学会、研究期間中あわせて6回の国際学会で順次発表し好評を得た。
これらの学会で発表した論文はすべて、当該学会の論文集ないしは関連学術雑誌に掲載の予定であり、この多くはすでに印刷出版されている。
