This proposal is related to the demonstration of nanolasers using the property of plasmonic nanostructures developed in our laboratory. We have designed a new structure consisting of a subwavelength structure made of the active material which is embedded between plasmonic nanostructures. Due to the efficient light confinement provided by the sub-wavelength plasmonic plasmonic structure, a low lasing threshold should be obtained and a nanosize light source should be achieved. The last six months of the postdoctoral scholarship were used to characterize the emission of the fabricated nanosize light sources. Optical pumping of the fabricated light sources was used to excite the active material of the plasmonic hybrid structure and the emitted light was recorded with the help of a high resolution spectrometer (~ 1 nm). We observed lasing at room temperature with a full width at half maximum smaller than 1 nm. Also the threshold for lasing was recorded. Unfortunately, the plasmonic mode of the hybrid structure could not yet be confirmed. The project is being pursued and we hope to observe plasmonic modes in the near future. Outstanding Poster Award was attributed to our work at The 8th International Conference on Surface Plasmon Photonics (SPP8), Taipei, Taiwan, May 22-26, 2017.
