The emergence of Service Design has encouraged a wide range of design practices for manufacturing to service economy. This research explains the design principles and their practices that can be explained well by using essential concepts of SDL framework. And to explain the phenomenon a case study of Islamic banking and finance is selected. It has achieved a remarkable success as a modern service.
The focus of this research is to find out a set of design principles that is core of modern services prevailing in our society. The set of design principles will contribute to create future services which will be invented to satisfy our future needs.
Multiple case study approach was adopted in three different countries Pakistan, Malaysia and United Arab Emirates, because the implementation of financial services depends on the economic positions that are different in different countries. So service values can be different.
Research findings in Islamic banking show that 1. Islamic banks offer profit & loss sharing mechanism that ensures co-creation. And the backbone of the mechanism is contract-based projects that are regulated by sharia board that refers to a partnership approach 2. Governance is the key to success to ensure safe transactions that is similar to institution in SD-logic 3. Assurance mechanism from institutional dimension mainly offers value propositions to the parties who want to deal with Islamic banking and finance.
