This year there are two papers related to the DC research project. The first paper is “Product Network Connectivity and Information for Loan Pricing”, collaborated with Professor Ogura from Waseda University. We investigate whether a firm’s local supply chain network connectivity with bank will affect the information production and loan pricing of banks. This research provides new insights on whether about the relationship between supply chain network and loan pricing in small and medium enterprises in Japan. We presented this paper in two conferences in Japan in June: the first one is an oral presentation on Nippon Finance Association meeting on June 4th. The second one is a poster presentation on Japanese Economic Association on June 24th. We received many insightful comments and suggestions in both of these conferences on how to improve our current estimation strategies and how to generalize our findings to policy issues in Japan and to research on bank finance. We also presented this paper on the 30th Australasian Finance and Banking Conference. The second paper is “Propagation of Financial Constraints in the Global Production Network: Evidence from Firm-Level Data for Asian Economies”, collaborated with Professor Todo (Waseda University) and Dr. Matous (University of Sydney). This paper investigates the vertical structure in the global production network and see how it affects the allocation of trade credit. We are revising this paper by including more countries and improving the identification strategy in this paper.
