地球科学では、球面上や球内部に分布した物理量を扱う場合が多い。球領域で定義された数値データを計算機で効率的に扱うためには適切な球面計算格子が不可欠である。本研究では、研究代表者が考案した新しい球面格子「インヤン格子」を発展させ、さまざまな分野で応用した。4年間の研究を通じ、インヤン格子を使った地球ダイナモシミュレーションコード、マントル対流シミュレーションコード、データ可視化コードなどを開発した。
