In FY2017, I was a co-author of 9 published scientific articles, some of which where published in highly regarded journals like Physical Review X, Nature Communications, and Physical Review Letters (PRL). Another 3 articles were submitted (1 of them has since been published in PRL) and several more articles are in the works, including a large review on ultrastrong coupling between light and matter. I have given 7 talks and 2 poster presentation at international conferences, workshops, and seminars. See attached list for details.
My articles include several on the topic of ultrastrong light-matter coupling. Together with the group of professor Salvatore Savasta, we have shown how this regime allows analogs of nonlinear optics, many-body interactions among atoms, and observation of the dynamical Casimir effect at lower mechanical frequencies than previously thought, and introduces new subtleties for photon detection and virtual excitations.
I completed the most comprehensive review ever of quantum optics with superconducting quantum circuits; this has become highly cited. I also studied the physics of giant atoms, i.e., atoms coupled to photons at multiple points separated by a large distance (several wavelengths). I provided theory support for two experiments: the first ever demonstration of coupling between a superconducting qubit and a resonator for surface acoustic waves and a demonstration of amplification without population inversion in a driven superconducting qubit.
