研究成果の概要

放射性セシウム濃度の分布情報からその濃度の拡散原因となった風速分布を逆推定する「変数局所化データ同化」という技術の開発を目指した。風速分布の逆推定には成功しなかったが、変数局所化を使って風速観測値と濃度観測値を同時にデータ同化すると、濃度分布情報の解析精度が著しく向上することを発見した。また、本研究でのデータ同化計算にあたっては移流拡散シミュレーションの精度向上が急務であったため、移流拡散モデルの研究開発が想定外に進展する副次的成果が得られた。

研究成果の学術的意義や社会的意義

大気汚染物質の濃度情報によって風速分布の推定精度を上げる技術は開発半ばとなったが、データ同化における変数局所化技術の有用性を示すことはできた。この変数局所化技術は気象庁などでの天気予報の基盤技術開発にも有用であろう。また、本研究では変数局所化データ同化によって大気汚染濃度分布の推定精度を大きく上げることに成功した。これは放射性セシウム以外の大気汚染予測サービス（黄砂や光化学スモッグなどの予報）の品質向上にも繋がる貴重な知見である。
