We worked with local collaborators and HCPs to determine the attitudes and knowledge of health care providers (HCPs) towards disrespect and abuse against pregnant women in a tertiary hospital, University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH), Enugu, Nigeria. Based on a rigorous literature review, we laid the groundwork for study implementation in the study location, Nigeria. We further developed the inclusion criteria for study participants to meet study objectives. We limited the study population to health care providers who could understand English. Also, we estimated an effect size of 7.6 and a sample size of 26 study subjects for each arm (94.7 (pre-intervention) and 102.3 (pre-intervention).
Achieved ethics clearance in Japan after a rigorous review and finalized the informed consent forms with compliance-adjusted information. In addition, we laid a groundwork for the ethics clearance process in Nigeria for approval by the local research and ethics committee.
Questionnaire content was developed, internally reviewed and approved. Questions were developed based on four factors that were highly represented and validated based on a 5-point Likert scale. Answers to the questionnaires were to be assessed based on a factor analysis. Using a two-tailed t-test, we planned to determine the statistical differences between pre- and post-workshop. We conducted several, effective, brainstorming face-to-face and virtual sessions with local and renowned experts on study implementation in Nigeria. Also, we rounded up study logistics and technical issues based on available grant funding.
