研究成果の概要

宇宙網（コズミックウェブ）は、冷たい暗黒物質の重力進化による構造形成パラダイムから予言されるMpc スケールを超えるネットワーク構造である。赤方偏移z=3を超えるような銀河形成期の宇宙では、全バリオンの8 割は宇宙網に沿って分布しており、銀河はその網の目の接点に向かって流れ込むガスによって形成されると考えられている。本研究では、すばる望遠鏡超広視野カメラHSCを用いて、SSA22 領域z=3.1原始銀河団に対して高感度水素ライマンアルファ撮像観測を行い、銀河形成期における宇宙網の広域地図を作成した。

研究成果の学術的意義や社会的意義

銀河形成期における宇宙網の性質を明らかにすることは、現在の観測天文学における大きな目標の一つになっている。特に、「銀河はどこでどのように形成されたのか」を理解するために、銀河へのガスの供給源と考えられている宇宙網の観測的研究が重要である。地球においても人類の最初の４大文明は大河のそばで興ったが、宇宙においても銀河・ブラックホール形成は宇宙網というガスの大河で起きたのではないかと考えられている。本研究では、形成期の銀河間を繋ぐガスネットワーク構造の性質を明らかにし、ネットワーク構造から銀河へのガス降着過程を調べる。
