研究概要

銀河団のバリオンの大部分は数千万度の高温ガスとして存在し、大量の重元素を含んでいる。このうち酸素の量は過去のII型超新星の数を反映する。銀河団では中心部以外、銀河団ガス全体に含まれる酸素の分布についてはほとんどわかっていなかった。「すざく」衛星により、はじめて銀河団ガスの重元素分布の全体像が見え始めた。さらに、重元素の供給源である、渦巻銀河、S0銀河、楕円銀河の高温ガスの酸素の組成も求まった。
