研究成果の概要

円偏光のフォトンは角運動量を持ち、回転対称性を持つ2次元物質との相互作用において、擬角運動量（離散的な角度の運動で定義される角運動量）が保存する。このとき、共鳴ラマン分光において、入射光と散乱光が円偏光の場合に、円偏光のヘリシティが変わらないラマン散乱と符号が反転するラマン散乱がある。本研究では、この現象を理論的に解析し、（1）角運動量保存の法則からラマン散乱におけるヘリシティの符号の関係を明らかにした。（2）またラマンテンソルの式から、現象を回転対称性を持たない系でも説明できることを示した。（3）さらに、第一原理計算から円偏光共鳴ラマン強度を計算するプログラムを作成し、計算した。

研究成果の学術的意義や社会的意義

本研究の学術的意義は、固体の共鳴ラマン分光強度を第一原理計算でできるようになった点である。また、円偏光を用いたラマン分光が従来のラマン分光よりも、格子振動の対称性などを直接観測できるようになったことを示したことに意義がある。これらの計算を拡張することによって、回転対称性を持たない、カイラルな物質を円偏光で測定すると、右巻きと左巻きのカイラルな物質をラマン分光で区別することができるなど新奇な学理を生み出した。今日、新物質の評価として、ラマン分光が非常に多く使われているので、一般の材料科学、物理学、化学など幅広い学問や産業に貢献すると期待している。
