Behavioural assessment uncovered significant changes in histamine H1 receptor (H1R) conditional knockout mice compared to controls and highlighted a role of H1R in astrocytes and neurons in different aspects of mouse behaviour. Neuronal H1R was important for memory function and anxiety-like behaviour. Astrocytic H1R played a role in anxiety, aggression, circadian rhythm, and wakefulness. The study underlines the importance of H1R on both, astrocytes and neurons, and it supports the concept that both cell types are a target of histamine to contribute to distinct physiological processes.
