研究概要

オーストラリア・ピルバラクラトン・ファレル珪岩層に産出する太古代(約30億年)大型微化石群について、画像データの大量収集、微化石抽出、画像解析ソフトによる3次元像復元、生活環復元と系統分類、母岩の希土類元素パターン解析、Nano-SIMSによる微少領域分析を行い、その生物起源性を確実なものとした。太古代浅海域における生物多様性が従来考えられていたよりも遥かに豊かで、酸素発生型光合成生物や真核生物の出現が中期太古代にまで溯る可能性を示唆した。
