研究概要

ヤブカ・イヌを用いたフィラリアライフサイクル実験系を用いてフィラリアと宿主の相互作用の解析により、フィラリア感染において重要な因子の解析を行った。その結果、蚊の自然免疫経路などはフィラリア感染に対して有意な機能を持たないことが明らかとなった。ベクター蚊において、他の病原微生物と比較して著しく巨大な多細胞生物であるフィラリアに対しては、既知の概念とは異なるベクター病原体相互作用が存在することが示唆された。宿主転換に際し、フィラリア側因子として脱皮関連遺伝子群が重要な働きを担うことが明らかとなった。特にcut1遺伝子は宿主転換依存的に発現していることが明らかとなり、フィラリア症制御のための新たな薬剤開発シーズとなることが期待された。
