To achieve the objective of this study, the landscape will be characterized in terms of its ecological, social, economic and cultural attributes. Each of the selected ES will be quantified and mapped according to their indicators and made an economic valuation. The future scenario planning will be carried out through suitable methods. Furthermore, the resilience of the community will be evaluated with the new Toolkit indicators for the development of planning and strategies. The research results will be disseminated through publication and conference presentations.

研究実績の概要 |
In FY2021, the fellow revised the peer-reviewed manuscript related to church forests characteristics and their contributions to people. In addition, the fellow analyzed the data collected from workshops conducted to evaluate the resilience of the Gurage socio-ecological landscape. This study evaluates landscape resilience by adopting a set of indicators for enhancing sustainability in the Gurage social-ecological production landscape in Ethiopia. The evaluation results revealed that landscape diversity, ecosystem protection, local governance, and social equity indicators had the highest landscape resilience ranks. The findings could help draw the attention of policymakers and natural resource managers to building and strengthening the resilience of the landscape. In FY 2021, three research outputs were published in peer-reviewed journals by making editions at different times. In addition, the manuscript regarding evaluating the resilience of the Gurage socio-ecological landscape was sent to a peer-reviewed journal. The fellow presented his research outputs at the 3rd GLP Asia Conference 2021 (Online Conference, 14-17 Sept 2021). The fellow provided an oral presentation as a final remark at the United Nations University Institute for the Advanced Study for Sustainability. Despite unpredictable obstacles (COVID-19), the research project was accomplished with good progress and outputs.
