研究開始時の研究の概要

大気中のPM2.5などの微粒子（エアロゾル）や、光化学オキシダントであるオゾンなどの微量気体は、大気汚染物質であると同時に気候変動を引き起こす物質であり、短寿命気候強制因子と呼ばれる。それらの気温や降水量などへの影響について、自ら開発を進めてきた気候モデルを用いて、組成ごと・地域ごとに定量的に評価する。その際に、気候モデルにおいて不確実性の高いエアロゾルに依存する雲・降水過程の精緻化を図りつつ、近年顕在化している極端な気温や降水などの災害に対する短寿命気候強制因子の影響の定量的理解を目指す。

研究成果の概要

大気中のPM2.5などの微粒子（エアロゾル）やメタン・オゾン・フロンなどの短寿命気候強制因子（SLCFs）が引き起こす気候変動について、研究チーム自らが開発した複数のソフトウェアを利用して、地球規模・地域規模で定量的に評価した。さらに、SLCFsの大気中での分布や気候変動への影響を超高分解能で計算できるソフトウェアを新たに開発し、また、従来のソフトウェアでもより高度な計算ができるようにアップデートすることで、今後の新たな研究基盤を構築した。

研究成果の学術的意義や社会的意義

気候変動対策の最大の科学的根拠資料である気候変動に関する政府間パネル（IPCC）では、SLCFsによる気候変動について、組成ごとには評価されていないのが現状である。本研究により、組成ごとに気候変動への寄与のしくみが異なるという科学的理解を進展させ、さらに、地域ごとのSLCFs排出削減による気候変動を組成ごとに定量的に計算した。国際的な社会問題である気候変動について、緩和のための各組成の排出量削減目標の具体化に資する科学的根拠が得られたことになる。
