| 研究開始時の研究の概要 |
I am researching the influence of Eastern religion on British literature, focusing on Iris Murdoch, Lawrence Durrell and Ted Hughes. Exploring this influence will lead both to a richer understanding of their work, and to an understanding of the complex dialectic between Eastern and Western thought.

| 研究成果の概要 |
研究期間を通じて、20世紀のイギリスの作家における日本や東洋の宗教・文学・神話の影響について研究を行った。宗教は、聖典や宗教文化・実践、建築、それらに関わる自然環境の観点から仏教や神道について主に論じ、ヒンドゥー教とシャーマニズムも若干とりあげた。検討した作家は、Iris Murdoch, Ted Hughes, Lawrence Durrell である。彼らについて、３つの研究雑誌と５つの研究書に論文を発表した。またこの間、異文化コミュニケーションと比較文学・哲学の研究のための雑誌 Global Conversations Journal の Consulting Editor も担当した。

| 研究成果の学術的意義や社会的意義 |
The project was intended to shed light on a previously under-researched area of literary studies and to demonstrate the extent to which the authors in question were fascinated and influenced by Eastern themes. This may lead to a re-evaluation of their work in terms of its depth and complexity.
