研究開始時の研究の概要 |
The research sets out to measure motivational changes in university students over the first two years of compulsory English classes. Growth in language proficiency will also be tracked. Qualitative data is used to identify students who will be interviewed to discover reasons for motivational change.
|
研究実績の概要 |
In 2022-2023 we gathered the main part of our data for the study. We gave a motivational questionnaire to first-year university students in April, September, and January. We also conducted additional interviews with eight students in August and January in order to get a deeper insight into motivational change over the course of the academic year. We published a paper in Language Learning on the results of our pilot study, and a paper in Task regarding the theoretical aspects of our research. We also began to analyze the data that we gathered in 2022-2023.

理由
Due to the novel-corona virus, we were unable to collect data in 2020 and 2021 and so our project has been significantly delayed. We are confident that we can finish the project in the academic year 2023-2024.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
This year we plan to analyze the data and then write up the results for publication in international journals. We have two papers that we plan to write based on the data that we have. The first paper is a simple replication study of our initial pilot, and the second paper is a longitudinal study of student motivation, as outlined in our initial research proposal. We also plan to travel to two international conferences in order to share our findings with the research community, and receive feedback to aid in publication.
