研究開始時の研究の概要 |
This project assesses the role African political figures have played in shaping “third generation rights” (aka group rights), human rights that entered usage at the international level in the post-World War II era. It focuses on three third generation rights: (1) the right to self-determination, (2) the right to racial non-discrimination, and (3) the right to development.

研究実績の概要 |
All goals of the project were achieved before the end of the five year grant. Research for a full book manuscript was completed, a proposal was submitted to a university press, the proposal was accepted, and the manuscript was published. The book published was Africa and the Shaping of International Human Rights (Oxford: Oxford University Press, 2021).
Another achievement was the researching, authoring and presentation of a paper at the International Studies Association (ISA) conference in June 2021. The paper, entitled "Money, Technology, and Human Rights: Cryptocurrencies and the Right to Development (RTD) in Africa)," was subsequently submitted for review for possible inclusion in an edited volume of papers on human rights.
