| 研究開始時の研究の概要 |
This research explores how Vietnamese elderly experiences their late stage of life, constructs their personhood, social roles and deals with various realities of old age through Buddhist charitable work.It explores how religious social activities define the social meanings of old age, and shape the social positions of senior citizens. Given that Buddhism is dominantly practiced by the elderly in Vietnam, this study sheds light on how faith-based activities, like charity, provide social networks and support that facilitate meaningful socially-engaged ageing experience for senior citizens.

- 慈善活動は社会的に関与する行為です。 さまざまな階級や背景を持つ人々が出会い、交流できるプラットフォームであります。 したがって、高齢者が社会的階層を体験し、他者との交流を通じて社会における自分の立場を交渉する場でもあります。
- 慈善活動やボランティア活動は、高齢者が社会での役割を維持するための手段です。 高齢者は慈善活動を通じて社会貢献を継続することで社会への帰属意識を維持しています。

| 研究成果の学術的意義や社会的意義 |
This research highlights the phenomenon of socially-engaged Buddhism in which Vietnamese senior-aged citizens are involved. It shows how Buddhist charity provides senior citizens with the platform to contribute to the society after retirement.
