2019-2020 (I) Data Collection I: (JAPAN): Map-out educational-language institutions (based on contacts already made); Select institutions; Recruit participants for research and conduct interviews; (NEPAL); Fieldwork at MoE, MoLESS, ECLIs; 2020-2021 (II) Data Collection II: Follow-up fieldwork with participants recruited from the previous year; Conference paper and workshop organization; Deliverables: Prepare article for submission to international journals; Discuss the next stage of research: a comparative project on intra-Asian migrations and temporary-migrant workforce in Japan

| 研究実績の概要 |
In FY 2023-2024, I made an international research trip to Hong Kong and joined the South Asia Initiative (CUHK) to begin research on Nepali migrants and diasporic communities in Hong Kong. I attended domestic conferences, including paper presentation at the Japan Association for South Asian Studies at Kobe University (Sept. 2023). I published an article "Infrastructural casualties: educational intermediaries and casualization of Nepali student workforce in Japan," in Applied Mobilities. In the latter half, I was invited for several talks and seminars to promote my book Surviving the Sanctuary City: Asylum-seeking work in Nepali New York: Martin Chautari, Kathmandu (Feb 2024), Kathmandu University (Feb 2024), Chinese University of Hong Kong (March 2024), University of Toronto (March 2024).

理由
Research is progressing smoothly. I have a forthcoming peer-reviewed article titled, “Infrastructural mediation and vulnerability in Nepal-Malaysia labor migration,” in Current Anthropology, 2024.

This academic year, I will mainly devote my time completing my research project, writing, and research-related translation and transcribing work.

Draft submission of an edited book proposal, titled /Nepali Transregional Mobilities: Aspirations and Inter-connections/ to Martin Chautari Press, Kathmandu, Nepal.
