研究概要

1990年以来、世界の地質を対象に推進してきた、『生命と地球の歴史』の研究を、コンパイルを加えて、1)横軸46億年研究と、2)特異点研究を中心に前進させた。後者は後生動物誕生の事変7-5億年前の特異点の研究を推進した。
それらを総括して、宇宙史を背景にした、生命と地球の歴史(岩波新書、1998)の新版を創出した。英語版は約400ページ、450図を含むもので2011年度中に印刷される予定である。
