研究概要

観測データおよび化学気候モデルの解析から、太陽活動が高まり太陽紫外線強度が強くなっている場合には、南半球の極渦が崩壊し夏の気候に変化する季節である晩冬/春期に、太陽紫外線が弱い場合に比べ有意に成層圏の帯状平均東西風の偏差信号が極向き下向きに対流圏まで下降する極夜ジェット信号(PJO)が明瞭となり、対流圏下層に南半球環状モード(SAM)が形成されやすくなることが分かった。さらに、このような気候変化が引き起こされるメカニズムとしては、モデルデータの解析から、太陽紫外線が強い場合には成層圏のオゾン濃度と気温が高まることを通じて波平均流相互作用が強化されることで成層圏信号の増幅がおこることが原因であることが示唆された。
