研究概要

奄美大島と沖縄本島北部に分布イするシカワガエルは、環境省レッドリストで絶滅危惧IB類に、鹿児島県と沖縄県で天然記念物に指定されている。本研究では、本種の保全を目的に飼育下繁殖を試みたところ、実験室の人工繁殖個体から、完全飼育下で自然繁殖に成功した。また、奄美産と沖縄産を用いて形態計測、mtDNA解析及び交雑実験を行ったところ、両者は遺伝的にも形態的にも分化しており、雑種致死による交配後隔離が成立していることから、別種とするのが妥当であると考えられた。奄美産を新種「アマミイシカワガエル」として記載した。
