研究実績の概要 |
Through this collaborative research, we have obtained convincing data to say that primary Breast cancer tumors already have a small subpopulation of cells with metastatic characteristics. Results obtained by Dr. Prieto-Vila during the two years of her JSPS fellowship not only have importance in basic breast cancer research but also bear significance in treatments. Identifying metastatic cells at the early stages of cancer will be significant for the accurate treatment of the patients and an improvement in their survival. Due to the covid-19 situation, the initial steps of this research were delayed. We could not obtain clinical samples for a long time and Dr. Prieto-Vila wrote a review article at that time. For these reasons along with small complications in the single-cell analyses, the current work has not finished yet. Dr. Prieto-Vila had been working for us in the past and I hired her from now on as well, so we plan to complete this work within this fiscal year. The results so far were presented at several conferences including the 80th Annual Japanese association of Cancer as a poster presentation, and this year, in 2022 it was submitted as an oral presentation. In concrete, in one of those conferences, she met researchers from a research group in Valencia, Spain with whom we kept in contact and recently wrote an international collective collaboration. In summary, the collaborative research has been very successful with three published papers as a first author, and some other manuscripts under submission.
