Design of the BSW waveguide-based optical circuit. The BSW waveguide was designed and optimized with low-loss and long-propagation-length to realize high sensitivity and high throughput for biosensing, Evaluation of the sensing performance of BSW guiding slab-based optical biosensor. The slab-guided BSW biosensor has been realized with 5% and 20 % light transmittance increase with 1 mg/mL BSA coating and 100 μg/mL anti-BSA coating, respectively. The metal-free device that can serve as an efficient optical circuit with long propagation length will impact the development of analysis tools for label-free sensing for use in biological research, medical diagnostics and pharmaceutical research.
