In this year, we performed comprehensive studies on the dissolution of trapped phase in porous media. We investigated the effect of wettability on the trapped phase and the dissolution process. By using, non-aqueous phase liquids as the trapped phase and immersing the porous media under octadecyltrichlorosilane, the wettability of the system can be altered from water wet to non-water wet. The dissolution mass transfer was then performed and investigated. The results were summarized and published in Science of The Total Environment. We also investigated the effect of different gases on the dissolution of trapped gases. By changing the gas with different properties, such as density, solubility, and diffusion coefficient, we elucidate the unique dissolution behavior of trapped CO2 gas and also developed the non-dimensional number model relations of various gases under various flow rate. Some of the results were summarized and published in Journal of the Mining and Materials Processing Institute of Japan. Other parts are now analyzed and will be submitted as an academic paper soon. Another work is related with peculiar phenomenon called as dissolution fingering. By changing the porous media characteristics, we observed the formation of dissolution fingering when the porous media to particle size ratio is large enough. The effects of this dissolution fingering to the dissolution mass transfer rate were summarized and published as a research paper in Water Resources Research.
