研究開始時の研究の概要 |
The investigator of this research project aims to develop a system, called, "Reading Tutor System: A Virtual Assistant for Young Readers". It will integrate extensive reading practices with vocabulary acquisition and corpus software to combine the practices of extensive and intensive reading.

研究実績の概要 |
In 2023, the software we have been developing since the beginning of the project was finally completed and deployed online. Since the summer of 2023, it has been used by students at Hiroshima University and the National Institute of Technology, Matsue College. Through a pilot study, in which medical students trialled our software, we have found various areas which need improvement. Overall however, we are satisfied with the functionality and operation of the software and feedback from students and researchers has been positive. Currently, we are making minor revisions based upon user feedback from the pilot study.

2: おおむね順調に進展している
理由
We are progressing as originally hoped for, though have received a one-year extension for the project due to some delays, which occurred in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the PI changing institutions. The final portion of our project will entail one final study where the software will be used by university and technical college students in this academic year.
|
今後の研究の推進方策 |
The final revisions to the software are currently being conducted and a study including more than 500 participants will be conducted in the summer and fall of this academic year. Findings will be disseminated through publication and conference presentations in the winter and spring of this academic year.
