| 研究開始時の研究の概要 |
Disputes over jurisdiction and maritime entitlements that have important implications for navigational rights persist in the region, despite the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). This begs an important question: Why do the domestic maritime regimes of many littoral Southeast Asian states related to freedom of navigation diverge from UNCLOS?

| 研究実績の概要 |
1) The Asia Maritime Index Database has been updated with more legal documents and agreements uploaded. The online database will continue to exist and be updated even beyond the period of performance. The author is drafting papers for presentation and publication in 2024/2025 examining the views and policies of Southeast Asian states on the law of the sea, contingencies in the region and great power competition.

This project is wrapping up.
Several field research and interviews in Southeast Asia need to be done. The author will then focus on key findings, drafting several monographs, and improving/promoting the database.
