In current Li-ion battery industry, it is necessary to make a quantitative flammability evaluation specially for designing safer non-aqueous electrolytes. By developing the wick combustion method, the flame extinction limits of electrolytes will be investigated considering the types of electrolyte solvents, flame retardant additives, mixing ratio and lithium salts addition. For a scientific understanding of fire suppression, the extinction mechanism will be clarified associated with near-limit flame behaviors through experimental measurement, chemical calculation and fluid dynamic simulations.
