研究概要

後口動物の形態進化に関与してきた重要な特徴の進化が、どのような遺伝子レベルの進化によって引き起こされたか、いくつかの例を取り上げて解析した。神経堤細胞の進化には、FoxD3のN末領域に新しいドメインを獲得したことを明らかにした。また、棘皮動物の幼生の進化においては、VEGFやAlx1の発現様式の進化が、大きな形態の変化をもたらしたことを明らかにした。また、脊椎動物の顎の進化に、二つの細胞集団の融合のような大きな発生プロセスの改変を伴ったこともわかった。以上の結果から、分子進化が、様々な形で形態進化に結びついてきたことがわかった。
